Some of the reasons are: Seeds not viable and old, immature seed pods, cold temps, not using clean pots or trays, Planting seeds to deep, overwatering and having dry soil. Gardeners need to make sure the seeds stay moist but use too much water. Rotting seeds will be a problem if too much water is being used. I gave an example of how I was using immature seed pods when I was saving seeds. The seeds will not germinate if the seeds are not mature. One of the best ways to protect seeds from the cold is by using a heating mat. Gardeners can use these reasons to help increase the germination rate.
