Fertilizing cabbage at the right stage is a game-changer, and I’ve learned that firsthand! In this video, I’m sharing how I’m feeding my cabbage plants with 5-10-10 fertilizer to support strong, dense head development. Cabbages are heavy feeders, especially during their mid-growth stage when they start to form those signature heads. Giving them the right nutrients now sets the stage for a harvest worth waiting for.

This is my second time growing cabbages, and let me tell you—my first experience taught me a lesson. I didn’t fertilize at all the first time, and while I was excited to grow them, I ended up with tiny, underdeveloped heads that never reached their full potential. That disappointment was motivation enough to step it up this season. Now that I understand how crucial fertilization is, I’m determined to get it right.

By using 5-10-10 fertilizer, which is higher in phosphorus and potassium, I’m focusing on helping my cabbages form compact, healthy heads. Too much nitrogen at this point could lead to leafy growth with little to no head, so this balanced approach is exactly what they need.
