Someone said my collard greens were fake… so let’s start from the very beginning. 👩🏾‍🌾 The truth is, I grow them from seed, and it all begins with the right seed starting mix. Here’s my recipe:
8 cups Coco Coir
1 cup Vermiculite
1 cup Perlite
1 cup Earthworm Castings
1 tbsp Mycorrhiza (optional)

Starting seeds indoors is optional. I’m doing it now to get a head start on my fall garden since it’s still too hot to direct sow outside. If your conditions are right, you can sow seeds directly in the soil.

And if you don’t have the time or energy to start from seed, skip it! Purchasing plant starts from LOCAL nurseries is a great option. I especially recommend this for beginners, because seed starting indoors can feel overwhelming at first.

If you’re just getting started, a premixed seed starting blend or nursery transplants are both wonderful ways to grow REAL collards from seed to harvest.
