How to Plant Corn from Seed Successfully?🌽 🌽 🌽 In this video I demonstrated how to prepare a raised bed for corn. Corn is a heavy feeder and is a grass that needs lots of nitrogen. When the Corn plants grows knee high, I’m going to companion plant by growing pole beans. The pole beans are going to provide nitrogen for the Corn plants and the corn will provide a place for the beans to climb. In order to plant the corn seeds, the raised bed was top dressed with organic fertilizer and it was scratched in the top soil. After planting the seeds I added a layer of compost on the top of the raised bed. Fish scraps were also planted in the raised bed for extra nutrition. The corn plants for the most part has been planted 4 inches apart. The rows are 8 inches apart. The reason for this is to have room for side dressing the corn plants with blood meal. Having the corn plants this close helps with pollination. Corn is wind pollinated, the silks must all be pollinated by the tassels in order to produce a full ear of corn. Planting the corn so close also helps the corn stand up through high wind. The roots are very shallow and this planting distance protects them. Due to the shallow roots corn needs an inch of water a week.
