How to Grow Cantaloupes? Using Cantaloupe Rinds? Part 1

In this video I’m demonstrating how to grow cantaloupes in the Backyard. Growing your own cantaloupes is very rewarding and I know exactly what’s in the food. Using organic matter is very important when growing the fruit. The organic matter feeds the plant. The more nutrients available the better the chances of a healthy plant. Healthy plants produce tasty fruit. When I dug the planting hole I back filled the space with rich organic matter made of fish, plant compose, and cow manure. After layering the compost and soil, I use the secret ingredient. I layered cantaloupe rind around the plant. This goes with the them of using organic matter to help fertilize the plant. The rind came from a cantaloupe which was grown in the food forest this year. The nutrients in the rind will be used to fertilize the new plant. This is a great way to use the food waste to help produce more food. The rinds will bring in worms to break down the scraps. The worms will provide more nutrients by layering organic matter through the worm casting. Finally I covered the rinds with compost and the woodchip mulch. The woodchips keeps it moist and that benefits the plant. The cantaloupe seedlings should thrive in this environment. I use this method for fertilizing fruit trees so I wanted to try this with plants in the garden.
