🥬✨ How to Grow Pest-Free Collards

Did you know collards are part of the brassica family, along with kale, broccoli, and cabbage all cool-weather veggies that thrive when temperatures drop?

🌿 Here’s how to grow them with less pest pressure:

✅ Choose the right timing:
• Grow collards in cooler temperatures, early spring or fall to naturally reduce pests.

✅ Start seeds indoors:
• Sow seeds at the end of summer.
• Transplant seedlings outside at least 60 days before your first expected fall frost.
• Visit the @theoldfarmersalmanac website to get an estimate of your first fall frost date for better timing in your area!

✅ Take advantage of cold tolerance:
• Collards can survive temperatures down to about 20°F (-6°C), but remember: surviving isn’t the same as thriving. For best growth, aim to keep them above 25–30°F (-4 to -1°C) whenever possible. ❄️

✅ Feed your collards:
• Use a fish emulsion-based fertilizer to keep plants strong.
